Heavy rain has caused flooding in the southern Midlands

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – Heavy rain overnight has caused localized flooding in the Midlands, affecting our First warning weather day.

Here’s a look at some of the highest rainfall totals in the Midlands over the last 24 hours:

Summary of the first warning

Good morning! Heavy rainfall last night has caused localized flooding in the south Midlands First warning weather day remains in effect. But good news: the heaviest rain is coming to the Lowcountry! Only a few showers are expected in the south this afternoon.

Showers will develop again across parts of the Midlands this evening and into Friday morning. We start the day with rain, but thanks to an approaching frontal boundary, the rain moves to the coast. As these showers dissipate, a hint of sunshine pokes through the thick cloud cover. This will keep highs near 80 degrees.

Behind our approaching cold front, high pressure will build up briefly, which will make the start of the weekend nice! We will remain dry and under partly cloudy skies, highs will reach the mid 70s. There will be more clouds and showers again on Sunday and Veterans Day.
