Coalisland man and woman appear in court charged with firearms offenses after shooting – The Irish News

Two people have appeared in court after a number of firearms were recovered by police investigating an incident in Coalisland last week in which a man was shot in the arm.

Eamon Mc Elkenny (34) and Roisin Price (43), both of Maplebrook Court, Coalisland, are jointly charged with possessing four 12 gauge shotgun cartridges, eight or more assorted cartridges, an empty magazine, a sawn-off shotgun barrel and two air rifles in suspicious circumstances . circumstances and without a firearms certificate.

Mc Elkenny is further charged with possession of ammunition and unlawful acquisition of explosives.

A detective told Strabane Magistrates Court on Thursday that the charges could be linked.

He explained that police were conducting a patrol following the shooting in the early hours of November 5 when they spotted three people walking in the Linside area of ​​Coalisland.

Upon seeing police, one person dropped a sum of money and a bag of medicine on the ground and fled on foot.

He was arrested and gave the name Loughlan Fitzpatrick, which officers said was false.

The other two people – Mc Elkenny and Price – were also detained and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

When Price was searched, two spent shotgun cartridges were found in her bra, which were sent for forensic examination.

Meanwhile, Mc Elkenny’s home was searched and firearms and ammunition were recovered.

The detective confirmed that there is currently no evidence of any paramilitary link.

During a police interview, Price confirmed that she had seen some firearms during her stay at Mc Elkenny’s address.

He did not comment on the questions asked of him.

The detective did not oppose bail for Price, who was released to stay at a police-approved address and was not allowed to have contact with Mc Elkenny or witnesses.

Deputy District Judge Austin Kennedy also agreed to release Mc Elkenny on £500 bail with a £500 bond to reside at a police approved address.

He must have contact with his co-suspect or any witnesses and will not be given access to Coalisland.

The case will be heard again at Dungannon Magistrates Court on November 27.
