Emergency services were called to Kingsley Road, Maidstone, after the tree caught fire due to a bonfire

Emergency services were called to a residential street after a campfire caused a tree to catch fire.

The fire at a house along Kingsley Road Virgo Stone could be seen everywhere in the city.

The incident happened on November 5 around 4:20 p.m.

Two fire trucks were sent to the road and crews used fighter jets to douse the flames, which had also spread to a nearby shed and fence panels.

The cause is believed to have been an accident.

It is suspected that a bonfire lost control and quickly spread to the tree.

By 5 p.m., emergency services had left and reported no injuries as a result of the incident.

Dark and thick smoke could be seen as far as Asda Living on the riverbank in St Peter’s Street, about a mile away.

A local resident said: “It was lucky, the fire brigade arrived within minutes. I hope everything is okay.

“Honestly, it was really scary to see the fire on top of the houses.”

In recent days, families across the country have been celebrating Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night.

Kent Fire and Rescue previously posted a warning on their Facebook page ahead of the event.

It read: “Have fun this Bonfire Night, but please stay safe.

“We recommend that you go to a professional bonfire and fireworks event, rather than setting off your own campfire and fireworks in the backyard.

“But if you choose to have a display at home, be responsible and keep safety in mind.

“Remember to keep them away from trees and property and stay well away.”

Police have been contacted for more information.
