Man who stabbed his ex-wife’s new partner multiple times in front of their children in Oakland County sentenced

FARMINGTON Hills, MI. – A man who stabbed his ex-wife’s new partner in Farmington Hills last yearand pressed on his chest to make him bleed while their children were in the room, has been convicted.

This week, Curtis Leroy Washington Jr. sentenced to four to 15 years in prison for assault with intent to murder, along with a second charge of domestic violence.

Background to the case

The stabbing occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Timberidge Apartments near Grand River Avenue and Middlebelt Road.

Washington is said to have broken into his ex-wife’s home and found her new partner there.

He then pulled a knife and stabbed the man once in the back and four times in the chest, according to police.

Body camera footage showed Washington pushing on the man’s chest after stabbing him, causing him to bleed to death.

This all happened with Washington’s youngest child and baby in the room, just inches away.

The responding officers quickly assessed the situation and decided not to shoot. Officers then went to work to save the stabbing victim.

“This could have very easily escalated into a fatal violent situation,” Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King said after the shooting last year. “The suspect made an up and down motion on top of the victim in a chaotic, low-light situation. These officers, thanks to the quality and ongoing training they have, were able to assess the situation and quickly decided not to use that escalated coercive response.”

This stabbing was not the first time Washington has been involved in a domestic violence dispute. Sixteen days before this happened, Washington was arrested for domestic violence and released on bail.
