What to expect if snow falls until the end of the week

DENVER (KDVR) — Almost one feet of snow fell in parts of Colorado on Tuesday and Wednesday. As the storm subsided, another storm is moving into the state and could last through the end of the week.

Two Determine weather warning days were issued for Thursday and Friday due to additional snow and rain that could continue through Saturday morning.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Time

The southern metro and Palmer Divide will continue to see light snow Thursday morning through the afternoon. Denver could also see some flakes after sunrise.

The storm should pick up again Friday afternoon for the metro and Palmer Divide, with the storm being at its strongest on Saturday morning.

Temperatures should reach close to 60 degrees by Sunday, allowing some snow to melt in the metro and along the canyon.

Across the metro area, some areas have already received up to a foot of snow, while other parts of the city received only a few inches. However, more snow is on the way.

There won’t be much accumulation Thursday, and the northern metro shouldn’t see many more flakes on the ground. Heavy snowfall will begin again Friday evening and more than a foot of additional snow will fall in many areas by Saturday afternoon.

How much snow fell in Denver’s first measurable storm?

These areas may see the most additional snow:

  • Monument Hill: 17 inches

  • Limon: 17 inches

  • Castle Rock: 15 inches

  • Conifer: 13 inches

  • Denver: 8 inches

  • Bennett: 8 inches

Denver only saw traces of snow before this snowstorm, but now the upcoming storm could accumulate more than a foot of snow in some urban areas by the end of the week.

What to expect

There were already one some crashes on Wednesday and Michels said Thursday morning could be another potentially treacherous trip with cold temperatures and snow already on the ground.

That said, there won’t be high snow amounts on Thursday and road conditions should improve after the morning.

The big impact could happen Friday, when the heaviest snow is expected to fall Friday evening and Saturday morning. Michels said anyone heading to southern Colorado should beware of delays and possible icy spots.

Michels said he had to get closer to the storm for up-to-date forecasts.
