Detroit-area women are receiving text messages from “plantation groups,” in addition to a wave of racist messages across the country

Women across the country are receiving text messages telling them they have been selected to pick cotton.

Multiple women in the Detroit area contacted FOX 2 this week after receiving racist and harmful text messages stating they had been selected to “pick cotton at the nearest plantation.”

FOX 2 first received a call Wednesday evening around 9:50 p.m. from a woman in the Detroit area who we are only identifying by her first name, Renee. Renee contacted FOX 2 after receiving the message about an hour earlier saying she had been chosen to pick cotton and would be done at 10 a.m.

“Good afternoon Renee! You have been chosen to pick cotton at the nearest plantation. Please be ready by 10am with all your personal items and belongings as you will never see them again.
We will pick you up in a white bus. You will be checked for drugs and other substances! Once you arrive here, you will be taken to your designed area. You’re in group 10B.”

Renee wasn’t the only one to contact FOX 2. Just 10 minutes later, another woman sent a text from another number that was similar in nature.

“Greetings You have been selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation. Please be ready with your belongings at 12:00 noon on 13 NOVEMBER SHARP. Our operating slaves will come to pick you up in a brown van, be prepared to be searched as soon as you entered the plantation. You are in plantation group D.”

Renee will speak with FOX 2’s Scott Wolchek about the reports in question later on Thursday.

Both messages arrived on Wednesday, the day after the elections.

But we also learned that Detroit-area women aren’t the only ones receiving these horrible text messages. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that women received similar messages, including some about a potential threat from white supremacists and KKK members.

13 News Now reports this in Norfolk, Virginia, numerous individuals in Virginia have received similar messages. Additionally, black students at the University of Alabama and Clemson University in South Carolina have reported receiving these messages: according to Sportskeeda.com.

At this time it is unknown who is sending the text messages and why they are doing it.

Some users on Reddit.com believe that Russia may be behind the text messages in an attempt to turn American citizens against each other and divide the country.
