The man accused of luring a girl into a pickup truck for sexual assault has been charged again

WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) – A man arrested for a sexual assault incident in Waterbury is facing charges in a separate incident, police announced.

Michael Dewitt, 45, of Seymour, was charged with first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and commercial sexual abuse of a minor.

The charges stemmed from a sexual abuse incident involving a minor, police said Thursday.

The female victim reported that she was walking home on September 28 when she was lured into a vehicle driven by a male suspect, later identified as Dewitt.

Investigators determined while inside the vehicle Dewitt sexually assaulted the victim. The victim was not physically injured during the incident, police said.

Detectives were able to obtain an arrest warrant on October 25, 2024, charging Dewitt with the crimes.

“It should also be noted that (Waterbury) detectives have also acted recently served Dewitt with an active arrest warrant on October 15, 2023,” said Waterbury Police Lt. Ryan Bessette. “This warrant was for charges related to another, separate sexual abuse investigation involving a minor that occurred on October 9, 2024 in Waterbury. In this previous incident, a female victim was similarly lured into a Dewitt pickup truck and further sexually assaulted.

Dewitt remained in custody of the state Department of Correction on a $550,000 bond, and was scheduled to receive the warrant at his scheduled court appearance on Thursday.

The warrant includes a court-ordered bond of $750,000.

Dewitt was also wanted by New Haven police for a previous sexual assault investigation that also involved a minor, Waterbury police said.
