Pia Wurtzbach faces calls for cancellation due to meeting with Liza Marcos, but also receives support

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach recently sparked a debate on social media after meeting with First Lady Liza Marcos to discuss HIV/AIDS awareness initiatives.

The First Lady shared photos from their meeting, during which Wurtzbach worked with her and the LoveYourself PH organization to plan the upcoming “Love Gala,” a charity event dedicated to supporting people affected by HIV/AIDS.

In her social media post, First Lady Marcos praised Wurtzbach’s commitment to the cause, saying, “I stand with LoveYourself and Ms. Pia Wurtzbach in their mission to raise awareness and provide support to people living with HIV/AIDS.” She also thanked Wurtzbach for “creating safe, compassionate spaces and providing life-changing resources to empower those who need them most.”

Wurtzbach expressed her appreciation in a response, writing: “I’m so happy to hear that we are all on the same page in our mission to make this a priority. Maraming salamat po.”

While many applauded Wurtzbach’s advocacy efforts, a section of netizens expressed their disappointment, criticizing her for working with the First Lady and calling for her “cancellation.” One user commented: “Cancel Pia Wurtzbach,” while others expressed their disapproval based on differing political views.

However, Wurtzbach also received a wave of support. Advocates praised her continued commitment to HIV/AIDS awareness.

Perhaps we can view Pia’s case in the same way: Liza could be her way to achieving her goal. Let’s face it: she needs money to support her HIV campaign.

Pia has been working with Love Yourself PH since 2015. Taguig is hosting this year’s Gala Night and Liza is of course just there to support the Taguig government and the organization. If Liza, the first lady with so many resources, can help the organization further their advocacy against HIV, why not?

Wurtzbach remains focused on her advocacy and continues her plans for the Love Gala, where she plans to auction off personal items, including her election memorabilia, in support of HIV/AIDS initiatives.
