Stevens Point man accused of using a search engine to find child pornography

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) – A 66-year-old Stevens Point man has been released on a $10,000 bond after being charged with five counts of possession of child pornography.

Joseph Schaufenbuel will enter a plea to his charges on December 16.

An investigation began on October 10. According to court documents, detectives investigated Cybertips received in August and September 2024 regarding a search with Bing Image for possible images of child pornography or child sexual abuse material.

Investigators said the IP address, email address and phone led them to Schaufenbuel’s home.

Investigators seized a laptop that they said contained a total of 118 images of apparent child pornography. A further 28 images of child exploitation material were also found.
