Police, fans get into wild melee during Florida-Georgia match as 1 fan uses racist comments and death threats

There were at least two incidents on Saturday Florida-Georgia game where police officers apparently beat fans in attendance.

Footage has gone online of an officer apparently firing hammer fists at the back of the head of a Florida fan. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released bodycam footage of that and another incident.

In “Incident 1”, two officers approach a fan, later identified as Walter Brown, in the last rows of EverBank Stadium, where Brown says a fan “attacked” him and tried to “kidnap” his children.

Shortly after officers ask Brown to leave, he reportedly turns to a woman and says, “I’m going to kill a cop or I’m not leaving.”

“Agent Kelly” then pulls out a stun gun while “Agent Bowers” tries to talk to Brown as he refuses to leave.

Brown then tells Bowers that he will “kick (his) damn ass.” Kelly then approaches Brown and tries to grab his arm, to which Brown says, “Don’t touch me, n—–.” Shortly afterwards, Kelly fires the stun gun.

Bowers tries to subdue Brown, but it doesn’t work. Brown then reportedly calls Kelly the slur at least four more times before Bowers fires his own stun gun.

As Brown tries to pull the wires out of the stun gun, Kelly is reportedly shown pushing and punching the suspect, while Bowers tries to handcuff Brown, who apparently says he’s “about to get rich” as bystanders say that the officers will lose their jobs.

The department also provided cellphone video in which Brown appears to reach for Kelly’s gun but is unable to holster it.

Later in the game, in what the office dubbed “Incident 2”, three officers are shown responding to fans deemed unruly by other attendees. After three fans are marked ejected, they beg to stay. “Sergeant Beasley” then grabs one of the fans in question, prompting a fight between the fans and the officers.

An officer apparently repeatedly throws hammer fists at the back of a fan’s head, the original moment going viral online. The department has not released this officer’s bodycam footage.

Despite the violence, Jacksonville Sheriff TK Waters said the officers were “within policy.”

“Yes, force was used,” Waters said Tuesday afternoon at a press conference. “And yes, that power is always ugly. … (It) doesn’t mean it was illegal or against policy.”

Waters also said the cell phone footage was “intentionally misleading” to “advance an anti-police agenda.” He also said that 35 people were evicted from the game, while a total of eight were arrested, including the four suspects mentioned above.
