How to get your injections if your pharmacy is closed

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – If you missed your early fall vaccines for respiratory infections, doctors and pharmacists say they’re ready even if there are fewer locations. Health officials say it’s important for people to protect themselves from respiratory viruses before the holidays.

“Obviously with winter in Michigan we’re all flocking indoors and with that closeness we’re all spreading germs unfortunately, RSV season, COVID season, flu season, and you want to get vaccinated before those viruses start circulating, ” said Jamie Vroman, clinical pharmacy specialist at Meijer.

With Rite Aids closing in our region, other pharmacies have had to step up. Vroman says Meijer is prepared for the crowds.

“We have seen an uptick in business, but we are very capable, ready to deal with the patients and help the community maintain a healthy status and be protected from flu and COVID and things like that. We are certainly willing to see additional patients, expand our patient base and really help the community where we can,” Vroman said.

Meijer does accept walk-ins for vaccinations, but also texts and calls before you leave.

Walgreens sent a statement to News 10 about their vaccine availability, saying:

Walgreens offers a wide range of immunizations for adults, seniors, adolescents and travel-related vaccinations. These include influenza, COVID-19, RSV, and a number of other CDC-recommended vaccines, such as shingles, pneumococcal pneumonia, whooping cough, meningitis, measles, tetanus, typhoid, polio, and others.

And if you haven’t gotten the flu, COVID-19, or RSV vaccine, it’s not too late. However, you should get the recommended vaccines as soon as possible, especially before traveling or gathering this holiday season, to give you time to fully develop immunity and increase your protection. Walgreens makes it easy to get all the recommended vaccines you need in one visit. To schedule a vaccination appointment in English or Spanish, use the Walgreens appvisit Walgreens.com/ScheduleVaccine or call 1-800-WALGREENS. We offer flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and walk-ins are welcome.

For now, health officials say there has not been a spike in respiratory viruses and likely won’t for another six weeks.
