Toddler dies in hot car after father forgot to drop child off at daycare, police say

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (WWSB/Gray News) – A toddler has died in Florida after reportedly sitting in a car all day.

According to St. Petersburg police, a man went to the Bayfront Child Development Center to pick up his child on Wednesday.

But when he spoke to the staff, they told him his 1-year-old son was not there that day.

St. Pete police said the father realized he had not dropped off his son and then returned to his car where he found the child unconscious.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Authorities say they are continuing to investigate the situation.

Last year, Kids and Care Safety reported that there were six car fatalities in the state of Florida.
