Haryana cop suspended for allegedly sexually assaulting employee at gunpoint

New Delhi:

The Haryana government on Thursday suspended a senior official after an employee accused him of sexually assaulting him at gunpoint. The Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officer, posted as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Hisar’s Hansi, is attached to the Chief Secretary’s office in Chandigarh during the period of his suspension.

He cannot leave the headquarters without prior permission of the chief secretary, the state government order said.

However, the suspension order did not mention a reason but the employee, a masseur, claimed that he was attacked while giving a massage.

He told reporters on Thursday that he had been attacked at gunpoint.

He alleged that the officer had him recruited as a peon on contract basis.

“He often called me for massages at his official residence. When he started doing wrong things, I refused several times, but he carried a gun and threatened to fire me. Later I filmed a video of this exploitation to collect evidence,” he was quoted by news agency PTI.

He said this had been going on for six months. He also accused the officer of making casteist comments.

He complained to the chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and senior officials of his department.

He has also sent a copy of his complaint, attached with a video of the alleged attack, to the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Chief Minister of Haryana.

Top agent Jind accused of sexual harassment

Last month, a controversy broke out in Haryana after an anonymous letter was addressed to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini Jind Police Chief Sumit Kumar of sexual harassment.

The letter, reportedly written by a female officer, accused Kumar of making sexual advances towards her.

She also alleged that two senior female police officers told her she had to “work” with the senior officer for promotion and other benefits.

She also alleged that Kumar and the women officers had a racketeering nexus, as part of which they registered fake cases against rich men and then made deals.

The Haryana State Commission for Women also wrote a letter to Mr Saini, urging him to transfer Kumar. Renu Bhatia, the chairperson of the women’s panel, also held a hearing in which Kumar appeared.

After his appearance before the women’s panel, Kumar said he was innocent and alleged a conspiracy against him.

“The viral letter was shared by an email account which was created and deleted within a minute and a half,” he said, adding that no female police officer has come forward and leveled allegations against him.

“I am saying that everyone who has worked with me during my 20-year career should be spoken to. Once you are convinced, steps should be taken to address my character assassination as well,” the police officer said.
