Adilabad: A farmer tried to commit suicide by consuming pesticides as he was reportedly depressed over the delay in shifting his soya crop by officials from an agricultural marketplace to a warehouse in Boath mandal center on Friday.

Farmer from Kuchulapur village in Boath mandal, Edmala Mohan Reddy, had an argument with the chairman of the agricultural market committee over the delay in shifting his soybean produce that he had purchased from the yard four days ago. He then tried to commit suicide by using pesticides. However, his bid was thwarted by other farmers present on the spot. Mohan Reddy said he was annoyed by the delay in transferring his soya products by Markfed officials. When he asked who would be responsible if the products were stolen, he said he had been staying at the yard for the past four days to protect the products.

Markfed officials said the movement of the products had been delayed due to malfunctions in the machines used to sew the bags of grains. They stated that steps would be taken to address the problem.
