Chelsea news: Enzo Maresca gives Cole Palmer injury update

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is hopeful Cole Palmer will be available to play against Arsenal on Sunday.

The 22-year-old suffered a knee injury against Manchester United last weekend, but walked unassisted during Chelsea’s Conference League match against Noah on Thursday.

“He’s getting better,” Maresca said. “The fact that he can walk and eat doesn’t mean he is completely fit, but we still have two days to prepare for the match.

“Hopefully we can at least have him for the session on Saturday and then we’ll make a decision.”

It will be the first time that Maresca has met Mikel Arteta in his managerial career, having both worked as Pep Guardiola’s number two at Manchester City.

“I learned a lot from Pep,” said Maresca. “If I’m here today, it’s probably because of how lucky I was to learn alongside him.

“Mikel has his own ideas too. We should probably both be grateful because we have worked alongside the one I consider to be the best manager in the world. We have both been lucky to work with Pep.”
