Cincinnati Bengals Chase Brown dives for a fumble that helped the Flip Ravens result

CINCINNATI— Things changed in a big way Thursday night when Chase Brown fumbled for the second time in the past five games thanks to a great strip from Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey.

Baltimore took the ball deep into Bengal territory into the end zone soon after to quickly turn a 21-7 deficit into a 21-20 margin. It was a huge swing in the game after Khalil Herbert made a mistake before falling on it earlier in his Cincinnati debut.

“There’s so much work that goes into these weeks, a lot of work goes into protecting the ball, that’s a big emphasis for us,” Brown told reporters about the error. “So no, clumsiness is unacceptable and it just has to be better.”

The sophomore back ran for 42 yards and a score on 13 carries while adding nine catches for 52 yards.

Cincinnati has been one of the worst performing teams in the NFL this season and that was true again on Thursday (16 carries for 49 yards). As a team, they have averaged four yards per carry (27th in the NFL), while only four teams have lost more fumbles than the Bengals rushers. Cincinnati hasn’t averaged more than 4.1 yards per carry in a season this decade.

“Just get back to work,” Brown said of the loss. “Focus on what we can get better at and that’s it. We can’t dwell on a loss like this. So keep pushing forward and getting better.”
