A murder investigation is underway in Papago Park after the body was found

PHOENIX – Homicide detectives have been called in after a man was found dead in Papago Park in Phoenix on Thursday morning, authorities said.

According to Phoenix police, officers arrived at the park at 600 N. Galvin Parkway, between McDowell Road and Van Buren Street, around 7:30 a.m.

The Phoenix Fire Department was already on scene and pronounced the man dead. The victim’s name has not been released.

“Due to elements found at the scene, homicide detectives responded to take charge of the investigation,” said Sgt. Rob Scherer said in a media advisory.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine the cause of death.

No other details have been announced. The murder investigation is still ongoing.

Papago Park is a large recreational area with hiking trails and is home to the Phoenix Zoo and the Desert Botanical Garden.
