Man charged in connection with 1994 cold case murder of 18-month-old boy in Garner

GARNER, NC (WTVD) — An 18-month-old child was murdered in Garner 30 years ago. Now a man is in custody.

Police said Jeffrey Wayne Puryear, 53, was arrested Friday on first-degree murder charges in connection with the 1994 cold case killing involving an 18-month-old child.

Authorities have not released Puryear’s relationship with the child.

“We commend the men and women of our Criminal Investigation Division for their dedication and relentless pursuit of justice in this case,” police said.

No other details have been released.

ABC11 has obtained court documents showing Puryear has a prior criminal record dating back to 1989 for crimes including assault, property damage, theft and common law robbery.
