Argument escalates, gun found, woman with knife and more

The discussion escalates

Two men got into an argument around 1:30 a.m. Thursday in the 900 block of South Wyoming Street.

During the argument, Justin L. Smutz, 42, of Butte allegedly swung a metal bar at the other man. He was arrested for assault with a weapon.

Pistol found

Officers assisted Adult Probation and Parole in the arrest of Jacob R. Compton, 41, of Butte, just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

During a search of Compton’s residence at the Napton Apts., 25 E. Granite St., a handgun was found, along with a small bag of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

He was jailed for unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted person, criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia. He also had a criminal contempt warrant for his arrest in city court.

Woman with knife

Two women got into a physical altercation late Wednesday afternoon at the Leggat Apts., 50 W. Broadway St. When police arrived, only one woman was on the scene. She told police that Denise E. Gardipee, 48, of Butte had a knife when she attacked her, but she was not injured.

Gardipee was in the Party Palace and the knife was found in a bush. She was jailed for assault with a weapon, criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pointed a gun

On Tuesday, Timmothy G. Flores, 48, of Butte allegedly got into an argument with two women at a home in the 2700 block of South Montana Street. To keep the women in the house, he reportedly pointed a gun at one of the women.

Police arrived around 8:45 p.m. and arrested Flores for unlawful deprivation of liberty and two counts of assault on a spouse or family member with a weapon.

Second offense

Tuesday at 4 p.m., Terry J. Fussell Jr., 59, of Butte was booked into jail on warrants for aggravated assault and strangulation of a spouse or family member (second offense).

Closed fist used

Just after 3 a.m. Tuesday, police arrived at a home in the 2900 block of Dexter Street and took William S. Gray Jr., 31, of Butte into custody.

Gray reportedly got into an argument with a man and punched him in the arm three times with a closed fist. He received a prison sentence for assaulting his partner or family member (second offense).

Two arrested

A Montana Highway Patrol officer took two Butte people, Nathan A. Salois, 40, and Amanda R. Otten, 32, into custody Monday at 10:30 p.m.

Salois was jailed for criminal possession of dangerous drugs with intent to distribute, criminal possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of probation.

Otten was jailed for criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia, along with outside warrants.

Shirtless man

At 7 a.m. Monday, a call came in about a shirtless man walking through yards in the 2700 block of South Dakota Street and also walking toward moving vehicles. It is also alleged he tried to open a truck door and entered a garage.

Police arrived on scene and took Daniel A. Caruso, 29, of Butte into custody on charges of criminal trespass to vehicle and two counts of criminal trespass to property. Caruso also had three outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Theft of property

Joshua J. Currier, 45, of Butte was picked up by an MHP trooper on Thursday at 7:24 p.m. on a warrant for theft of property over $1,500.

Thursday accident

On Thursday at 3:30 p.m., officers arrived at the scene of an accident in Uptown Butte, where a car had just crashed into a pole. Standing outside the car was Stephen K. McRill, 23, of Butte, who initially told police it was his stolen car, but officers soon learned that a woman was driving the car and that he had been the passenger.

McRill had warrants out for his arrest and was also jailed for obstructing a peace officer.

Truck destroyed

Sometime Monday morning, a truck’s windshield was broken while parked on the 900 block of South Utah Avenue.

Vehicle stolen

Late Monday morning, it was reported that a multi-colored 1979 Ford flatbed was stolen while parked in the 1800 block of Elizabeth Warren Avenue.

Criminal evil

On Wednesday afternoon, it was reported that someone painted the mural in the alley behind 5518 Designs, 27 N. Main St.
