19-year-old accused of raping young girl in New Rochelle while drunk

New Rochelle resident Joey Valencia was arrested on Thursday, November 7, following an investigation into the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl, New Rochelle Police Chief J. Collins Coyne announced on Friday, November 8.

According to Coyne, the investigation began after the victim was taken to a hospital under the influence of alcohol and reported that she may have been sexually assaulted.

Investigators subsequently confirmed that such a crime had occurred and that the suspect, later identified as Valencia, had given the girl alcohol, Coyne said.

The detectives then posed as the victim and successfully made contact with Valencia, reiterating the suspect’s young age while communicating with him. He was still interested in meeting the victim again, “further involving himself in the criminal activity,” Coyne said.

Later that evening on Thursday, detectives arranged to meet with Valencia, who was taken into custody upon arrival.

After his arrest, Valencia was charged with:

  • Rape in the second degree;
  • Second-degree attempted rape;
  • Endangering the welfare of a child.

Detectives are now investigating whether there are any more victims.

Valencia is now being held pending arraignment.
