Florida’s Democratic congressman says he was targeted in an attempted assassination

A Democratic congressman from Florida said police arrested a suspect allegedly armed and put him on a target list near his home the day before the election.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz said in a statement on X Friday that the suspect “is a former felon who was in possession of a gun, a suppressor and body armor.”

“A manifesto was found on his person that included anti-Semitic rhetoric and only my name on the ‘target list,’” Moskowitz said, adding that there were other details he did not want to make public because of the ongoing investigation.

Margate police, who Moskowitz said informed him of the arrest, did not immediately return messages seeking comment on the case.

Moskowitz noted that he is part of the House of Representatives task force investigating the attempted assassination of President-elect Donald Trump.

“I understand the failures and the importance of restoring protections to our current and future Commander in Chief and Vice President. At the same time, I am deeply concerned about the safety of Members of Congress and the significant lack thereof when we are in the District. Regardless of our political leanings or differences, we all have families we want to keep safe,” he said.
