Details emerge about JJ Redick’s first month as Lakers coach

The NBA season is only a few weeks old, but JJ Redick’s tenure as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers has already been a rollercoaster ride.

The Lakers started the year red hot. They won three home games 3-0, making Redick look like a genius signing. But the team looked mediocre during the five-game road trip that followed, which ended with a 131-114 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Redick called LeBron James the only bright spot in the loss to the Grizzlies. The neophyte coach then punished the rest of the squad due to the lack of effort.

Following Redick’s fiery words for his team, ESPN’s Shams Charania shared some insight on how the 40-year-old coach has “resonated” in the locker room so far.

Redick is reportedly seen as “downright detail-oriented” and “structured” in the way he leads the team. On the other hand, Redick has also shown a lot of passion, breaking a number of clipboards out of anger when his team hasn’t performed to his level.

Redick has also held players to a high standard and maintained a level of accountability, which was evident when he called out D’Angelo Russell for his efforts in the Lakers’ loss to the Grizzlies. Russell only saw six minutes of action in the second half of the game and played a total of 22 minutes on the season.

The Lakers begin a three-game home stretch this weekend, which is good news for the purple and gold faithful considering the team’s impeccable record at the Crypto.com Arena thus far. But with Anthony Davis is now on the injured listRedick may break more clipboards in the near future.
