Woman not liable for husband’s suicide due to her illicit relationship: Karnataka High Court

“Accused Nos. 1 and 2 had not intended that the deceased would commit suicide. The mere fact that the accused asked the deceased to go and die so that they could live a happy life will not amount to sedition. It appears that the deceased was sensitive as his wife – Accused No. 1 was having an illicit relationship with Accused No. 2 and therefore upset, he might have committed suicide. The available evidence does not show that the suspects by their actions incited the deceased to commit suicide.” said the Supreme Court.

It therefore set aside the court’s order convicting the appellants, Prema and Basavalinge Gowda, and acquitted them of all charges in the case.
