Dutch capital declared a risk area after attack on Israeli football fans – POLITICO

Local authorities in Amsterdam issued an emergency order declaring the Dutch capital a ‘high-risk security area’ attacks on Israeli football fans on Thursday evening.

The emergency measureswhich also cover the Amstelveen region, include allowing “preventive searches”, a ban on demonstrations and an increased police presence.

The imposition of the measures comes after supporters of the Israeli football team Maccabi Tel Aviv were attacked in the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam after a Europa League match against Dutch team Ajax. The Dutch team won the match 5-0.

The emergency order, which was instituted Friday, also bans “face-covering clothing when accompanied by possible disruptions to public order‘and prescribes ‘extra attention and security for Jewish institutions and other vulnerable locations’.

According to local authorities, the measures will apply “at least this weekend” and until further notice.
