Mom can’t believe her eyes when she receives a bill for a birth in the US

A woman who gave birth in America was stunned when she calculated the cost of her delivery without health insurance.

Although the NHS faces challenges, the British are fortunate to have free healthcare, ensuring pregnant mothers have their check-ups and deliveries, both traditional and surgical.

However, the American system relies on private insurance and government regulations.

Quin, a lifestyle and motherhood content creator, gave birth to her second child about ten weeks ago. The American mother recently received her hospital bill and exclaimed: “My mind is blown.”

Quin’s birth experience was simple: She was in the hospital for less than 48 hours and did not require surgery. “I was healthy, my baby was healthy, but my bill was still so high,” she said in disbelief.

People were shocked by the staggering amount of money it costs to birth a child in the US. Quin detailed her account on her page @quinmhamiltonwhich revealed that her room and board costs were $25,489 (£19,726), the recovery room cost $12,322 (£9,536), and her labor and delivery room $5,776 (£4,470).

Her laboratory costs were $1,885 (£1,458) and the medical and surgical supplies and equipment cost $2,088 (£1,615), plus pharmacy costs of $1,933 (£1,495). Her total bill is said to have been a whopping $49,494.08 (£38,303).

Quin said: “I’m just stunned at the moment. I didn’t pay the bill when we had our first son – I don’t think I even saw it – but now that I see this I’m just so shocked that this is how much it costs to have a baby in the United States.”

She added: “Thank goodness insurance is picking up almost the entire bill, but still that’s wild.”

Comments poured in from parents around the world, with one commenting: “I got a skin-to-skin treatment straight after, like what?” Another commented: “That’s amazing, really shocking.”
