Saints’ Olave headed to IR, could be done for the season, report says

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The Saints are expected to place Chris Olave on injured reserve sometime Saturday (Nov. 9), and the wide receiver could be done for the rest of the season, an NFL insider reported.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke the news six days after Olave suffered his second concussion since Oct. 13 and was carted off the field following Sunday’s loss at Carolina.

Olave, 24, has suffered four concussions since turning professional in 2022, his fifth in the past five seasons as a footballer. He also suffered one on October 24, 2020, while playing for Ohio State against Nebraska.

If he lands on injured reserve, Olave would miss at least the next four games. That would make him eligible to return for the Dec. 15 home game against Washington, which would kick off New Orleans’ final four games of a season that started with a 2-7 record.

“Given the nature of his injury, the team’s record and the fact that he has visited specialists, there is a real chance that Olave will have played his last defeat in 2024,” Rapoport tweeted.

Despite being knocked out two games early and sitting out a game with his two head injuries, Olave is still the Saints’ leading receiver with 400 yards this season and ranks second in receptions (32) behind running back Alvin Kamara ( 46).
