Two children died in a crash after an overspeed driver ran a red light and crashed into their car, police say

LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) – Police in Las Vegas are investigating a fatal crash Friday evening that left two children dead.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash happened around 5:15 p.m. on the city’s east side when a driver of a 2014 Lexus GS350 approached an intersection at a high rate of speed, ran a red light and crashed into a 2019 Mitsubishi. Foreigner.

Police said the Mitsubishi contained a driver, a 30-year-old woman and four youths.

Two of the children were taken to hospital with serious injuries but later died. Two others suffered minor injuries and, along with the driver of the vehicle, were treated and released from hospital.

Authorities said the driver of the Lexus left the scene after the crash, also leaving his two injured passengers behind.

Las Vegas police did not immediately identify those involved in the crash.

Detectives say they are continuing to search for the hit-and-run driver.
