SIU investigating police officer, man injured in armed confrontation in Hamilton – CP24

Hamilton police say the officer’s injuries are not life-threatening, while the man’s injuries are life-threatening.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a police officer and a man in his 30s were injured during an armed confrontation in Hamilton.

According to the civil service, a resident of an apartment building in the Ainslie Wood West neighborhood at 1964 Main St. W., just south of Osler St., contacted the Hamilton Police Service (HPS) to report that a man was ‘ behaved in a threatening manner’. .”

The SIU said officers went to the 5th floor of the building, but at some point they became involved in an interaction with a man.

“An exchange of gunfire occurred, resulting in both the man and an officer suffering gunshot wounds,” according to a Nov. 9 news release.

Both the officer and the man were taken to the hospital for treatment, the agency said.

There are now six investigators and two forensic examiners assigned to the case.
