Karunwi made the plea on Saturday while reacting to the news of his 80-year-old mother who escaped death by a whisker last Sunday at her home in Wasimi in Erunbe, Abeokuta South Local Government Area of ​​Ogun State.

Speaking to our reporter on phone, Karunwi recalled how his mother, of Olatunji Ayinla Street in Wasimi, Abeokuta, Ogun State, was attacked by assailants who broke into the house in search of the old woman, who was in church at the time.

“They left my mother’s house without pulling a pin,” he said, adding: “The way they invaded the house was so terrifying that some residents fled the area.”

The situation, he said, has left the community in fear as residents consider moving for fear of becoming the next target.

“They (attackers) reportedly smashed the main door and two windows of the building, gaining access to the house. While it lasted, my mother did not return from church. They did not take anything from the home,” the spokesperson said.

Karunwi, popularly called ‘Baba Oodua’, a prominent member of Chief Fasheun’s faction of OPC from Kosija Zone in Wasimi, Ewekoro Local Government Area of ​​the state, was a Special Assistant to former Governor Dr. Bukola Saraki of Kwara State.

“If my mother hadn’t been home, she might be dead or kidnapped by now,” he said.

“I, therefore, call on Governor Dapo Abiodun and President Bola Tinubu to step up logistics for security in Ogun State and the entire country respectively. They should invest more in staff and security equipment.

“The Ogun State and Federal Governments should also increase surveillance in the troubled areas so that bad people are not given opportunities to implement their agenda,” he commanded.

The Inspector General of the OPC, Chief Adewale Sodiq, who commended the unwavering commitment of Hon Karunwi to the group, also condemned the development and urged Ogun State and Federal Governments to intensify their actions to ensure adequate protection of lives and property in the state and beyond. the country.

Sodiq said no apology should be accepted from any government that failed in its primary duties of protecting lives and property.

In his response, Baale of Erunbe, Chief Commissioner Ismaila Ibikunle, who also condemned the attack and described it as an attack on the community, urged the state to assist in securing the community to discourage residents from leaving their homes.
