A Minnesota man who previously appeared increasingly concerned about the prospect of a Trump-led administration took the lives of his wife, former partner and two sons before taking his own life.
On Thursday afternoon, authorities discovered 46-year-old Anthony Nephew dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home on West 6th Street in Duluth, Minnesota, the Daily Mail reported.
In a disturbing revelation, Nephew had previously spoken about the mental health crisis in America three years ago, stating that “disruptions lead to suicide – or murder before suicide.”
The bodies of his wife Kathryn Ramsland, 45, and their seven-year-old son Oliver were discovered with gunshot wounds in their shared home.
Police responded to a welfare check around 2 p.m., where they found Nephew’s former partner, Erin Abramson, 47, and her 15-year-old son Jacob Nephew, both dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Before the incident, the stepfamily seemed harmonious. Kathryn, better known as Kat, regularly shared positive social media posts about Erin, praising her baking skills and sharing videos of Oliver asking for her pastries.
Neighbors remembered Oliver fondly, with one saying: ‘He was such a sweet boy.’
In recent months, Nephew’s social media activities have exhibited concerning behavior, including discussions of extraterrestrial life and unusual cosmic theories. He expressed his deep concern about political developments and religious extremism.
His July post revealed deep concerns: “My mental health and the world can no longer coexist peacefully, and a big part of the reason is religion. I am terrified that religious fanatics will impose their misguided beliefs on me and my family. I have intrusive thoughts of being burned at the stake as a witch, or crucified on a burning cross.”
Nephew had previously discussed mental health issues publicly, identifying himself as a 2022 suicide “survivor” and contributing to the Duluth News Tribune on the importance of mental health care.
The Duluth Police Department released a statement confirming there is no ongoing threat to the community and extending their condolences to the families of the victims.
