Japanese-inspired cafe for light bites, board games and crafts

Even with the abundance of cafes in the city – so many that you need a checklist of the best cafes to visit – there is often a new one published every day. From the opening of Warabimochi Kamakura‘s newest eatery to the recent launch of Hmma popular Thai-style dessert cafe from Australia, cafe hoppers here certainly have no shortage of trendy establishments for delicious food and brews.

One month old Nibbies is the newest addition to the scene and is quickly making a name for itself with its relaxed atmosphere and Japanese-inspired design that will transport you far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

You will find Nibbies tucked away on the second floor of a Telok Ayer shophouse. Take one step inside this café, the center of which is furnished with sophisticated tatami seating around a raised platform you feel like you’ve entered a minimalist Japanese house.

In addition to the soothing atmosphere, the Japanese-inspired light bites, fun on-site craft activities and free board games make it the perfect place for an afternoon of hanging out with friends or to retreat from the city.

Nibbies’ menu includes sweet and savory options such as mentaiko tater tots ($11), along with unique drinks like ube matcha lattes ($8.50) and osmanthus lattes ($7.50).

Egg lovers should try the cafe’s signature tamago sandwich ($9), which features pillow milk bread filled with sliced Japanese omelet and creamy egg mayo. Do you need a little more filling? Opt for the curry don with hamburg steak ($18) or the Shibuya honey-glazed toast ($12) for something sweet. You get a thick slice of toast glazed with golden honey, served with ice cream and fresh fruit – a treat worth enduring a food coma for.
