Jack P. Shepherd mistook Helen Worth’s exit announcement for butt dial | Soaps

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has revealed how he reacted when Helen Worth tried to tell him about her departure.

We say attempt because he didn’t actually answer the first time she called him!

This year Helen will reprise her role as Gail Platt. A few months ago, she left the ITV soap was attached.

“This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most beautiful job on the most beautiful street in the world,” she said. ‘I made the decision at the beginning of this year and spoke to the producers, who were very kind and understanding.’

Jack, who plays Gail’s son David on the show, recently reflected on the news during another episode of his podcast On the Sofa. He presents it with his co-stars Colson Smith (Craig Tinker) and Ben Price (Nick Tilsley).

When asked how he learned of Helen’s departure, Jack explained: ‘Maybe it was this time last year. It was about November and she called us and I thought, that’s a button. So I empty it!

‘I then got a text from Tina (O’Brien) saying, ‘Helen is trying to call you’, so I thought this was bad. I called her and she said, hello, hello, I told her… she told Ben, she told Tina, so I know straight away what’s going on, she’s gone! And she says, I’m going, I’ve decided to leave, and she feels like she’s had her time.

“So I said great, great, you know, you deserve it! I mean damn, 50 years in any gig is a long time.”

Ben added, “I think she was more nervous about calling us than about leaving!”

Gail’s exit story was original She was supposed to be reunited with her former husband Martin Platt, but after that Sean Wilson left the show after filming beganthe story was quickly rewritten and John Thomson was brought back as Jesse Chadwick.

At the end of October, Gail left her family terrified she had another heart attackand was rushed to hospital. Fortunately, the stent placement surgery was a success, and Gail woke up eager to see her loved ones.

Gail confessed in a conversation with Jesse that she had been terrified she was going to die, and as her life flashed before her eyes, her happiest moments were with her and Jesse in Thailand.

Viewers will know that Jesse and Gail had a holiday romance abroad in 2021 and saw each other each other occasionally since then.

The pair recently agreed to this make their relationship officialbut Gail took it a step further during her hospital stay by asking Jesse to marry him.

Jesse was taken aback and assumed it was the painkillers talking. When he returned to her bedside later, he was surprised when Gail referred to their earlier conversation and pointed out that he wasn’t sure if she would remember after the painkillers wore off.

Gail insisted she remembered and meant every word, revealing she would love to call him her husband.

Although Jesse pointed out that her children didn’t exactly approve of their relationship, he explained that no one makes him happier than them, and accepted the proposal.
