Ruud van Nistelrooy leaves Manchester United immediately after the arrival of Ruben Amorim

Manchester United announced on Monday, November 11, that interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will not be part of the technical staff of incoming Ruben Amorim. Van Nistelrooy, who was appointed head coach on an interim basis, left the club along with three other first-team coaches on the day of Amorim’s arrival.

Van Nistelrooy had taken over the team for four games after the dismissal of Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman capped his short spell at the club last weekend with a stunning 3-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League.

Manchester United announced the development with a short tweet, wishing the best for the player-turned-manager.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy and three first-team coaches have left the club with our best wishes for the future,” the club wrote on social media.

“Ruud is a Manchester United legend and always will be. We are grateful for his contribution and the way he has approached his role during his time at the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford. Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have also left and we wish them all the best for the future. We will confirm the full coaching composition of the men’s first team in due course,” Manchester United said in a statement.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s last match

Ruud van Nistelrooy lingered on the Old Trafford pitch after Manchester United beat Leicester City 3-0 on Sunday in his final match as interim boss, but the Dutchman said it was more about celebrating a great moment than a possible farewell.

United have recorded three wins and a draw in all competitions in the four games since Erik ten Hag was sacked and Van Nistelrooy took temporary charge.

“No (it was not a goodbye),” said Van Nistelrooy. “I felt like closing this period and actually it was a moment, here and now, and that, in my opinion, was the beauty of the moment where, yes, circumstances came together and it was a beautiful moment and it was gratitude from my side for them, and the reception I got was incredible.”

The fans chanted his name during the final minutes of the game and then serenaded him with “Ruuudddd!” as he walked to Stretford End after the final whistle to applaud their efforts.

With the arrival of new head coach Ruben Amorim on Monday, Van Nistelrooy has yet to know whether he will be part of the restructured staff. He expected to hear this on Sunday or Monday.

“I can only describe that moment, how I felt. At the end of this block of four games, it felt like a conclusion for that period. The future is open, that’s how I felt,” said Van Nistelrooy. . “It was a great moment to share that with the supporters. Yes, special.”

United captain Bruno Fernandes has not scored in his last 17 games under Ten Hag, but scored four in four games under Van Nistelrooy, including United’s first goal on Sunday.

The manager said a large part of his role was to stabilize the team and instill some confidence in the short time he had after such a difficult start to the season.

“When I started at the beginning of this four-match period as an interim to stabilize and continue playing what the players are used to, 80-85%, and make small adjustments or position changes or resting players or starting players, and that’s where you start to get your own piece of identity, transfer it to the training pitch and get the confidence back,” said the former United striker.

He will deliver them to Amorim in good condition.

“You still can’t see the quality of the players in a consistent way because there is still a lot to improve, but I think in the last four games there has been a foundation with a strong unit, a good spirit, players who were looking for results,” said Van Nistelrooy. “And we got four and that was very important to me.”

The Dutchman said he was initially told he would only be in charge for one or two games, but that was eventually extended to four games so Amorim could complete his final games with Portuguese side Sporting before the international break.

Van Nistelrooy said he was grateful for the club’s transparency, saying: “It’s important to have that clarity and I appreciated that.”
