How Alabama LB knew Deontae Lawson’s interception was coming

Deontae Lawson picked LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier for his first career interception on Saturday night.

Lawson leapt into the air to secure the interception. His teammate and Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell knew it was coming when he saw the LSU wide receivers’ routes develop.

“He took that ball away a few times in practice,” Campbell said. “So I knew as soon as that stretch happened, I knew he was going to pick the ball off. But honestly, when I turned around, I really couldn’t believe he took the ball. I am really proud of my brother and I love playing with him.”

The Mobile, Alabama native finished the game with seven total tackles, one tackle for loss and the interception.
