A Bengaluru man’s suggestion about Zomato’s ‘Food Rescue’ feature impresses CEO Deepinder Goyal; Here’s what happens next

Zomato on Sunday introduced a new feature to combat food waste, enabling ‘unbeatable’ prices for customers eager to buy throwaway items. A Bengaluru-based man’s comment on this caught the attention of Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, who was so impressed by the recommendations that he asked the man to apply.

This is what happened

A user on X named Bhanu, a resident of Bengaluru, Zomato offered some suggestions. He spoke about the possible misuse of Zomato’s ordering and cancellation system. He also recommended restricting Zomato users to canceling no more than two daily orders to curb misuse.

Comment on Deepinder Goyal’s postwrote the user, “validations: 1. Should not apply to COD, 2. Cancellation should not be allowed if delivery reaches 500m from delivery point, 3. Chance of 2 idiots sharing meals, ordering and cancel at the same time get a discounted place. 4. Two cancellations per month are allowed.”

On this comment the CEO replied saying“All this and more is already present. Well thought out, by the way. Who are you and what do you do? Would you like to know more and see if we can work together? Send me a DM if you want to chat more.”

The user further informed the CEO that he works as a product manager at a startup company. He wrote: ‘Thank you very much. I am from Bangalore and use blinkit regularly. I regularly give suggestions via Twitter to improve service by tagging your company. Always working on reducing the impact and improving services. Working as a PM in a start-up company.”

What is Zomato’s Food Rescue feature all about?

According to the Food rescue function“Canceled orders will now appear for nearby customers, who can pick them up at an unbeatable price, in their original, undamaged packaging, and receive them within minutes.”

The canceled order will appear in the app for customers within a 3 km radius of the delivery person carrying the order.

The original customer and his immediate environment will not be given the opportunity to claim the order.

Orders containing items that are sensitive to distance or temperature, such as ice cream, shakes, smoothies, and certain perishable items, are not eligible for Food Rescue.

Customers who prefer vegetarian food will not see non-vegetarian orders.
