Chet Holmgren had a funny, light-hearted message after a hard fall led to injury

The Oklahoma City Thunder suffered a significant loss to dynamic two-way center Chet Holmgren on Sunday fell hard and had to be helped off the field against the Golden State Warriors. The Thunder would lose, 127-116, and that to ESPN Shams Charania reported a few hours later that Holmgren would miss at least eight to 10 weeks with a right iliac hip fracture.

It is a brutal development for both parties. But the great man himself was cheerful despite the bad news. He sent a funny, light-hearted message on his X account expressing his shock that Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins still scored despite Holmgren fighting so hard he got hurt.

“I can’t believe this woman is still telling the lie, I’m angry,” Holmgren said wrote.

It wasn’t the only message the former Gonzaga star had for fans following his injury.

“I can’t say if I feel better or worse because I’ve experienced something similar before,” says Holmgren also wrote on his X account late Sunday night. “On the one hand, I know how to handle it, I know what to do, what not to do and how beautiful the other side is. But on the other hand, I have felt the frustration of this process, and the wear and tear it brings. Most of all, I’m hurt. I can’t help my teammates and play in front of our fans and supporters for a while. Everyone who stays with me and our team, along with my need for hoops, is a big part of me I don’t feel sorry for or feel bad, there are a lot of people with real problems that don’t heal.

It is clear that Holmgren strives to maintain a positive attitude towards his situation. It is not his first restart with a serious injury; he missed his entire rookie season with a broken foot after being selected second overall in the 2022 NBA draft. While this condition doesn’t seem nearly as serious, it’s still a devastating development for both the player and the team.

Holmgren was off to an excellent start to the 2024-25 season, averaging 18.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.9 blocks per game while hitting 40 percent of his three-point attempts heading into Sunday night . His presence on both ends lifted the Thunder to an 8-1 start, even in the absence of prized offseason acquisition Isaiah Hartenstein, who broke his hand before the season started and isn’t expected to return for a few weeks .

Still, Holmgren clearly doesn’t let his mood stray too far.
