Three teens arrested in Roxbury for ghost gun and stolen scooters

Three teenagers were arrested Sunday in Roxbury after a police chase over traffic violations led to them discovering a homemade gun and stolen scooters, officials said.

Around 1:45 p.m., officers on patrol in the Grove Hall area of Blue Hill Avenue saw three boys riding two scooters at a high rate of speed without helmets, police said.

Officers tracked the scooters and found a driver near a home on Edgewood Street and placed him in handcuffs for the “numerous traffic violations he had committed,” police said.

At the same time, the second teen drove down the street and struck the officers’ parked cruiser, police said. He fell off the scooter and ran toward Blue Hill Avenue, police said.

“A foot chase ensued and officers were able to locate the suspect as he attempted to hide under a parked car,” police said. “Officers were able to quickly stop the driver of the scooter and handcuff him.”

Along the route the teen took, officers found a ghost gun, a homemade pistol with no serial number and untraceable, that had been thrown under a car, police said. There was one bullet in the chamber and 11 bullets in the magazine, police said.

When officers inspected the scooters, they found that the “ignitions had been rigged to operate without keys” and that there were “no registration sticks or certificates of ownership,” police said.

A 15-year-old was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, possessing ammunition without a license, carrying a loaded firearm, possessing a large capacity firearm and trespassing.

The two others, aged 15 and 16 respectively, were charged with receiving stolen property.

All three suspects are expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.
