Man, 36, charged with first-degree murder of his partner on Montreal’s south shore

Shilei Du, 36, was charged Monday morning with the first-degree murder of his partner, Guangmei Ye, whose body was found Sunday at a home on Fontenelle Street in Candiac, Que.

Guangmei Ye, 29, was a data analytics expert at investment banking firm Morgan Stanley.

The local police, together with the Régie intermunicipal de Police Roussillon, arrived at the residence on Fontenellestraat on Sunday after receiving a call at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Candiac is located on the south coast of Montreal.

Once there, police discovered the victim’s body and immediately transferred the investigation to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Police arrested Du at the scene. Provincial police technicians went through the home and investigators met with the man, an SQ spokesperson said. The victim’s death is said to have occurred around November 7.

In September, Shilei Du was charged with criminal intimidation in the context of domestic violence, accusing him of making death threats against his partner. On October 15, he was released pending trial.
