Jack Del Rio resigns from Wisconsin CFB staff after arrest on OWI charge | News, scores, highlights, stats and rumors

Former NFL coach Jack Del Rio, who served as a senior advisor to Wisconsin football coach Luke Fickell this season, was arrested after allegedly driving under the influence and crashing into a street sign and fence, according to ESPN. Adam Rittenberg.

Madison police said Del Rio was “showing signs of impairment.”

“We take these types of matters very seriously and we continue to gather information,” Wisconsin said in a statement through Rittenberg.

Fickell announced on Monday that Del Rio resigned following his arrest:

Before joining Wisconsin this season, Del Rio spent more than two decades in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints as a strength and conditioning coach (1997-98); the Baltimore Ravens as linebackers coach (1999-01); the Carolina Panthers as defensive coordinator (2002); the Jacksonville Jaguars as head coach (2003-2011); the Denver Broncos as defensive coordinator (2012-2014); then-Oakland Raiders as head coach (2015-2017); and then-Washington Football Team as defensive coordinator (2020-2023).

He went 93-94 as head coach, leading his teams to three playoff berths but only one postseason win.

Fickell told reporters before the 2024 campaign, he brought Del Rio on board as an advisor to gain his “football coach” perspective.
