Family mourns 16-year-old killed in ATV crash in South Columbus

A family mourns the loss of a 16-year-old boy died after an ATV accident in south Columbus.

The accident took place on Tuesday, November 5. The ATV, with Felix Estrada as a passenger, was traveling illegally on a city street when it struck a car at an intersection around 2:30 p.m. Both Estrada and the driver were thrown off the road. -wheeler and taken to Grant Hospital, where Estrada later died.

“My chest was heavy and my heart hurt,” said Makeya Wylie, Estrada’s older sister. “I just got on my knees and prayed and prayed and prayed.”

Wylie recalled her brother’s fun-loving nature, saying, “He was just a wonderful person. There has never been a time when I don’t remember Felix not smiling or being happy, and it really took its toll on a lot of us, the family. members, friends.”

Estrada had recently started high school.

“He just went to homecoming, his first homecoming ever,” Wylie said. “He was just a great kid, not just because he was my family, but he was just a great person.”

Family and friends plan to honor Estrada and raise money for his funeral on Monday at 4 p.m. at Colton’s Place in Hilltop.

Wylie vowed to keep her brother’s memory alive, saying, “Felix will live on forever through me and my children, my grandchildren. I will never forget his smile. I will never forget his smile. I will never forget his voice.’

It is illegal to ride ATVs and dirt bikes on the streets of Columbus City. Columbus police have repeatedly targeted those who break the law and drive recklessly through “Operation Wheels Down.”

It is a targeted enforcement where illegal drivers can be fined, arrested and have their ATVs and bicycles confiscated.
