Brad Pitt wins important arguments in Miraval fight with Angelina Jolie, case heads to trial

A source close to Brad Pitt tells PEOPLE that the court’s ruling “is a clear victory for Brad” in his lawsuit against Angelina Jolie over a French winery they co-owned

Brad Pitt has just scored a major victory in his ongoing legal battle of ex-wifeAngelina Jolie about the French winery Chateau Miraval.

In new court documents filed on Friday, November 8, and obtained by PEOPLE on Monday, November 11, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Lia Martin dismissed three objections – known as motions to dismiss – recently filed by the legal team of Jolie regarding Pitt’s own claims in court that Jolie breached an oral and written agreement not to sell their shares in Miraval without the consent of both parties.

The ruling was made in response to Jolie’s requests to dismiss three separate lawsuits that Pitt brought in a complaint filed in the case in April, in which Pitt’s attorneys alleged that the former couple’s businesses, Mongo Bongo and Nouvel, ‘had entered into a written agreement’. agreement in 2013 to grant each other a right of first refusal on any sale of their respective interests in Miraval” and that the written agreement “restrained Mondo Bongo and Nouvel from selling their interests without the other’s consent.”

This written agreement between the two companies, Pitt’s attorneys alleged in the April complaint, related to the eventual sale of Miraval and coexisted with an oral agreement between Jolie and Pitt to obtain the other’s consent before selling their shares in to sell the winery. According to the November 8 ruling, Jolie has 30 days to respond.

“This is a clear victory for Brad, demonstrating the legitimacy of his claims and demonstrating once again that the other side’s conversations are not substantively supported,” a source close to Pitt tells PEOPLE.

Pitt, originally 60 Jolie sued49, for sell its stake in Château Miraval to a third party, Tenute del Mondo, the wine division of the Stoli Group, in 2022. The legal battle sometimes overlaps with a separate conflict regarding custody of their children, half of whom are now of legal age: Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

Jolie and Pitt started dating in the mid-2000s after meeting on the set of their 2005 film Mr. and Mrs. Smith and married in August. 23, 2014. Jolie filed for divorce on September 20, 2016.
