Two SEC schools were fined by the conference after incidents that occurred over the weekend.

The SEC announced on Monday that LSU will pay a $250,000 fine “for interruption of the game against Alabama when fans threw debris on the field” in a loss to Alabama on Saturday.

While LSU’s fine came because of a moment of frustration for fans, Ole Miss will pay a fine for what its fans did during a moment of celebration. The school was fined $250,000 for its fans storming the field and will pay an additional $100,000 fine for its fans entering the field before the end of the game.

The Rebels upset Georgia 28-10.

During the Tigers’ 42-13 loss to Alabama, their fans responded to the officials’ failure to call out what they believed was a face mask by throwing trash on the field.

Although that call turned out to be inconsequential to a game that was already out of hand, LSU ultimately had to pay a huge fine. In addition to the fine, fans who participated in cleaning up trash could face punishment.

According to the SECLSU must do the following:

  • “Be required to use all available resources, including security, stadium and television video, to identify individuals who threw objects onto the playing field or at the opposing team. Any individuals found to have been involved in disrupting play will be prohibited from attending LSU Athletics events for the remainder of the 2024-2025 academic and athletic year;”
  • “To review and update the athletic department’s game management procedures and alcohol availability policies to prevent a repeat of Saturday night’s disruption, including a review of the agreed upon SEC sportsmanship, game management and alcohol policies to ensure full compliance with existing verify standards, and”
  • “Upon completion of this review, the University will provide a report to the Conference Office summarizing its efforts to identify and discipline violators and its plan to issue policies to prevent similar incidents in the future while ensuring compliance of the standards of the Conference.”

The conference said it will not suspend alcohol sales privileges at LSU, but “reserves the right to do so if the requirements outlined above are not met.”

Ole Miss’ $350,000 fine comes as it is the school’s second violation of the conference’s field-storming policy. The first offense came last year when the Rebels defeated LSU. Ole Miss would have gotten away with a fine of just $250,000 had the fans not stormed the field 16 seconds early.

The win for Ole Miss was huge as it kept the Rebels College Football Playoff hopes alive despite losses to Kentucky and LSU already under their belts. Ole Miss now has a win over one of the top teams in the SEC and could qualify for CFP consideration when it takes action against Florida and Mississippi State to close out the year.
