The Supreme Court stays the CBI probe into allegations against the police

On September 25, the Supreme Court had taken suo motu notice following a news report highlighting the alleged incident. The girl’s parents had subsequently filed a Habeas Corpus petition with the court.

Although the State had opposed both cases, the Supreme Court dealt with both grounds together.

The parents suspected that their minor daughter was sexually abused by their neighbor on August 29 and therefore took her to a nearby doctor for medical examination.

They were then sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital where the said police inspector came to record their statements.

The inspector asked them to come to the police station the next day but took the girl aside and started questioning her at the hospital elevator, the parents said.

The next day, the inspector allegedly asked the survivor’s parents to resolve the issue with the suspect and when they refused, he attacked them.
