Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ wanted to ‘make a statement’ against Kim Porter by dating Jennifer Lopez

Sean Diddy Combs was in some sort of love triangle when he was in a relationship with Jennifer Lopez. The controversial music mogul still had feelings for his ex Kim Porter at the time, which further complicated his relationship with the singer. However, Diddy confided that part of him might have used Lopez to get back at the mother of his children.

What Diddy initially brought and the late Porter together was the same thing that led to the couple breaking up in the first place. Of all the high-profile celebrities the Bad Boys CEO dated in his life, Porter was his longest-lasting lover. He met Porter before his monumental success in the film industry, while still working at Uptown Records. Diddy worked at the label for three years before creating his own music empire. While interning there, he caught his first glimpse of Porter, who was dating singer Al. B Especially at that moment. She immediately left a lasting impression.

“I wasn’t trying to yell at her or anything, but I was admiring her — her lips, her eyes, her mouth, her shape, her energy — and thinking, ‘I wish I had a girl like that,'” Diddy once said Essence.

His wish soon came true, only Diddy didn’t have to settle for a girl like Porter. He dated the real deal on and off throughout the 90s and 2000s. One of the traits that made Porter different from the others Diddy dated was the model’s incredibly calm personality.

“She was smooth, you know, like ice. She is cool and collected and thinks before she speaks. You meet a lot of young ladies, and they just don’t do that. Kim was never pressured; she was always in control,” Diddy said.

However, Diddy thought Porter was a little too cool as they got deeper into their relationship. For that reason, and several others, Diddy was attracted to Jennifer Lopez, who he made famous dated between 1998 and 2001.

“I’m used to applause when I walk into the room,” he said. “And (Kim) was just too cool. I would say to her, ‘I think I’m going to be with someone else who will take care of me the way I want to be taken care of, and who will be a little more aggressive.’”

Since Porter “wasn’t really conforming to the way I wanted her to conform,” Diddy looked for an alternative with Lopez. But when it came to dating the Anaconda star, Diddy clarified that he was simply “making a statement” to his ex.

How Kim Porter Reacted to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Relationship with Jennifer Lopez

Porter heard Diddy’s statement loud and clear at the time. But it seemed like Diddy’s relationship with Lopez had little impact on Porter’s cool personality. Porter admitted that many people were concerned about her mental state at the height of Lopez’s affair with Diddy. But it turned out that Porter’s loved ones had little to worry about.

“Everywhere I went, people were asking, ‘Are you OK?’ I just hated that,” she said.

“People just believed everything they saw on paper, and they talked to me like I was really crushed,” Porter added. “But I had just given birth. I couldn’t sit in a corner somewhere with my heart broken. I have children. I am a grown woman.”

What helped Porter keep her calm at the time was the assurance Diddy and Lopez wouldn’t last.

“The world only saw the bright lights and the camera. But I knew what was really going on. He was still in love with me, she said.

And she was right. At the time, even Diddy admitted that his ploy to lure Porter back to Lopez didn’t work.

“Jennifer was my perfect match in terms of energy,” Diddy said. “I thought, ‘I’ll test the waters and hopefully Kim will see that I’m serious and come running after me.’ So I was back home trying to figure out what the heck was going on.
