An elderly man was struck and killed while crossing Synott Street on Houston’s west side, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — An investigation is underway after Houston police say an elderly man was fatally struck while crossing the street on Monday.

According to HPD, the incident happened on Synott Street on Houston’s west side around 6 p.m.

Investigators say the victim, who was about 90 years old, was crossing the street in a dimly lit area with no crosswalks.

HPD said the driver told them he didn’t see the man until it was too late.

The accident shut down Synott in both directions for hours. At this time, investigators are unsure if the victim lived in the area or where he went.

According to HPD, the driver remained at the scene; He was cooperative and showed no signs of intoxication.

“It must be devastating for the family of the person who was hit and the people who were driving the car. Believe there was a passenger in it, and that passenger is also dealing with that trauma,” said HPD Lt. Larry Crowson. said.

As with any fatal accident, police will turn over the investigation findings to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, and they will determine whether criminal charges are appropriate.
