Crash closes eastbound I-10 lanes, one person dead, the other in custody

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 are closed near Warner Road after troopers attempted to take a man into custody Monday evening after he ran across the westbound lanes.

The Department of Public Safety says troopers were called to the area just before 8:30 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian in the westbound lanes.

According to officials, troopers attempted to detain the man who later jumped the median into the eastbound lanes.

Police say the man was struck by a vehicle on the east side.

Officials say “a scuffle ensued between a trooper and the suspect while the trooper was taking the suspect into custody.”

During this time, a separate collision occurred between two cars that left a passenger dead.

DPS officials say the drivers of both vehicles were also injured.

The eastbound I-10 lanes are closed, and it is unknown when the area will reopen.

The investigation is still ongoing.
