Tyson Fury announces who he will fight after ‘He Beats Usyk’: “It has to happen”

Tyson Fury has an extremely important fight coming up next month, both in terms of his future and his legacy.

The Briton suffered his first defeat in May this year when former undisputed cruiserweight champion and unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk defeated him over the distance.

Usyk – who seriously hurt Fury in round nine before winning a split decision – lifted Fury’s WBC title that night and became four-belt champion in a second division.

The immediate rematch was quickly announced and ‘The Gypsy King’ is deep in camp as it will take place on December 21st. Pound for Pound Podcasthe was of course confident that he would win the rematch. If he does, he sees a trilogy as the only option.

“The next time I beat Usyk. God willing, I do what I believe I can do. My own promoter said to me in an interview today: ‘You win this, you’re back on top and there’s nothing left to talk about, that’s it, you put it behind you.’

And I said no, Frank, that’s not what we’re going to do. If I win this fight with Usyk, there has to be a third fight. That must be so. Because if you win one and I win one, then there has to be a third fight.

Regardless of who won the second, there must be a third fight to see who is the better of the two of us. One person, one decision maker. And that’s what I’m going to look for next. And when that’s done, next year, maybe in February or March, I’ll look for the winner of the rematch between AJ and Dubois.”

Many have suggested that Anthony Joshua, who recently failed in his bid to become three-weight world champion when he was knocked out by new titlist Daniel Dubois, could be Fury’s next fight, win or lose against Usyk. The man from Morecambe clearly disagrees.
