Two drivers died in a freak accident on Airport Road in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Drivers of a truck and a car were killed in a freak accident on Airport Road here, police said on Tuesday.

The concrete mixer hit the car – a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) – after which the drivers of the two vehicles got out and got into a verbal altercation over the minor accident Monday evening.

Meanwhile, a bus of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is heading towards the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA)

of Rajarajeshwari Nagar, the stationary truck rammed on the right side of a flyover and ran over the two drivers.

Truck driver Kuldip Kumar (42) died on the spot, while auto driver Jagadish (40) succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, a senior police officer said.

A case has been registered at Yelahanka traffic police station and further investigation is underway, he said.

In a statement, the BMTC said that as the bus approached the GKVK (Gandhi Krishi Vigyana Kendra) flyover on the airport road, it came across the previously crashed vehicles parked “dangerously and in an unscientific manner” while their drivers were engaged in a verbal altercation. .

“At this time, the driver of the Volvo bus, who could not react in time due to poor visibility in the dark on the descent of the viaduct, could not avoid the collision, which resulted in a chain accident,” the report said.

The bus driver, Puttaswamy, suffered minor injuries and the only passenger on the bus escaped unhurt, the BMTC said.
