Amorim targets stunning signing of Arsenal player as immediate upgrade to Ten Hag’s ‘resounding failure’

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has urged Red Devils sporting director Dan Ashworth to make Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein the first signing of his reign, amid claims Andre Onana has been identified as a weak link – although the Est is only one of three new goalkeepers on the field. Portuguese radar.

A new era began at Old Trafford on Monday when Amorim arrived in the North West to take charge Manchester United on an initial deal lasting until the end of the 2026/27 season. The sixth permanent manager at Old Trafford since the departure of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, the 39-year-old is expected to propel the Red Devils back among the English and European elite.

However, with the team performing poorly under his predecessor Erik ten Hag and the club currently sitting in a lowly 13th place in the Premier League, Amorim will certainly have his work cut out for him at Old Trafford.

In the long term, he is expected to make major changes to both personnel and the way the team plays, with the Portuguese’s 3-4-3 formation that served him so well at Sporting CP. is expected to be introduced, if not immediately, then certainly over time.

In the meantime, there have been plenty of rumors about who Amorim might want to sign and now reports in Spain claim that a new goalkeeper will be an immediate priority, with the no-nonsense 39-year-old seemingly unimpressed by Onana and considered the Cameroon stopper as a weak link.

Per El NationalAmorim has three targets in mind to replace Onana, who cost £43.8million when he joined from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 but is considered a ‘resounding failure’ by the Portuguese.

And the man reportedly at the top of that wish list is Hein – from whom he is currently on loan Arsenal at Real Valladolid – and has turned heads with a series of stylish displays in LaLiga.

Amorim has three goalkeeper targets to replace Onana at Man Utd – report

Onana is now in his second season at Old Trafford and although his first campaign was marred by several high-profile mistakes and questionable decisions, the 28-year-old has been one of their most consistent performers this time around. There are few United players who cannot be blamed for their struggles so far.

Nevertheless, it is claimed that the player is seen as a weak link in their squad and a player who is widely seen as an asset to Ten Hag. And while the former Inter man was familiar with playing behind a three-man defensive line at the San Siro, it is claimed he is not considered suitable for Amorim’s system in the future, hence the apparent desire to upgrade sign.

It is claimed that Amorim wants a new goalkeeper with guarantees as Onana ‘has never provided the sense of security required of him and is very prone to making serious mistakes’.

The report goes on to explain that 22-year-old Est Hein is not the only Amorim goalkeeper on his wishlist, with Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel and Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma exploring two other options.

However, the deals for neither would come cheap, despite in Donnarumma’s case his deal in the French capital expires in the summer of 2026.

That’s where the report claims Hein’s option has ‘gained momentum in recent days’, with his contract at Arsenal currently set to expire at the end of the season.

He is seen by Mikel Arteta as David Raya’s long-term heir apparent, but after impressing at Valladolid, Hein wants to be more than just a bench warmer at the Emirates Stadium and the Spaniard is unlikely to move any time soon.

Elsewhere, United are looking at the risk of losing to Real Madrid due to the arrival of Jonathan Tah.

The German defender will become a free agent next summer and is said to have been the first signing of the Amorim era at Old Trafford. However, an ACL injury suffered by Eder Militao has seen the Spanish giants increase their interest with United eyeing his signing.

Who is Man Utd and Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein’s target?

By means of Samuel Bannister

Hein may be a vaguely familiar name to fans of Premier League teams other than Arsenal, having been the third-choice goalkeeper in recent seasons, but what else is there to know about him?

The fact that Hein already has more caps to his name than senior appearances at club level shows how he is developing himself into one of the most promising talents to emerge from Estonia in recent history.

After making five appearances for Nomme United in the Estonian third tier in 2018, making his debut at the age of 15 years and 10 months and keeping a clean sheet in the process, Hein earned a move to Arsenal’s academy. A year later he signed his first professional contract with the Premier League club.

Hein made his international debut for Estonia in September 2020, a month before he was first called up to Arsenal’s senior squad for a Europa League match against Dundalk in October 2020. But he would have to start a loan spell at Reading. – he played five times in the Championship – before making his Arsenal debut.

That came in November 2022, but it didn’t go as he had hoped. Hein committed a foul that led to a penalty, which he was awarded, in a 3–1 Carabao Cup third round defeat to Brighton.

He remained Arsenal’s third-choice goalkeeper, behind David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale, for the 2023/24 season, before being sent to Real Valladolid this season for more experience.

The move to La Liga has allowed Hein to gain more playing time; he has been ever-present for Valladolid in the Spanish top flight so far. Furthermore, he has largely remained Estonia’s main goalkeeper since making his debut for his country.

Noted by his coaches for the way he has matured in recent years, Hein is still just 22 years old and remains a goalkeeper with great potential, which his current spell could help him unlock.
