Plea before the Supreme Court to cancel bail granted to Kanhaiya Lal murder accused

Plea before the Supreme Court to cancel bail granted to Kanhaiya Lal murder accused

Lal was hacked to death by the two attackers after he shared a post on social media supporting certain controversial comments against Prophet Muhammad made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma during a televised debate in 2022.

The two attackers entered Kanhaiya Lal’s shop in Udaipur in June 2022, posing as customers, and attacked him with sharp knives. The attackers killed Lal and injured two others. Later, a video taken by the attackers shouting communal slogans and justifying the killing had gone viral.

Javed, who worked at a nearby shop, was accused of passing on information about Lal’s whereabouts to the two main accused.

The Rajasthan High Court granted bail to Javed in September this year. This was challenged by the complainant in the Supreme Court.
